I am now at a place with work and life that I feel like I can commit to taking on a more formal leadership position so finally said yes when asked to consider President Elect for 2009.
My experience includes having an entrepreneurial spirit and opening and running a small consulting business for 15 years, authoring 4 books and numerous other types of publications, being an advisor to local, state and federal agencies and volunteering to help those affected by disasters or other traumatic events. Last year I made the move from my own business back into full time employment with the Everett Office of Emergency Management where I am the Public Education Coordinator. This move allowed me to have better control over my schedule and because of that, I am able to enthusiastically say yes when asked to be President Elect of Cascadia.
Position: Secretary Candidate: Gail Alexander Candidate Statement: I accepted the nomination to be secretary so I could give something back to Cascadia for all I've experienced the past 2-½ years. Taking up Rving at age 60 was the last thing I ever thought I would do. Now I'm about to retire and look forward to having many more fun adventures with my Cascadia friends. From the day I came to my first event in a rented RV, the group welcomed me and I felt accepted. Why should I be secretary if I've never held a position like this before? All I can say is that I always do the best I can at whatever I do and I can be counted on to do the same with the position of secretary.
Position: Treasurer Candidate: Nancy Gerou Candidate Statement: My name is Nancy Gerou, I live in Issaquah, Washington, and I've been a Cascadia member for three years. I've never joined many organizations and I've been an active member of even fewer. But from my first time with Cascadia, I was hooked! It is not just a great organization, it is a fantastic group of amazing women with rich and wonderful life stories to tell. Personally, I'm more of a listener than a talker, so I feel that I could listen for years and never hear all of the stories.
Anyway, I have really wanted to be involved and to give back to the group somehow. I am a few years away from retiring and I am an administrator at Seattle University. One of the significant parts of my job is managing a multi-million dollar budget and helping other directors of programs with their budget planning and management. Once upon a time, I was the treasurer for my church in Boulder, Colorado, but that was a while back. I even ran my own small business for 3 years and kept my own books (once an accountant set them up for me). I am very familiar with excel formats, spreadsheets, balance sheets, etc. In any case, I would be honored to serve as the treasurer for Cascadia RVW. I would do my best to serve at the pleasure of the president, the board and the chapter to have a transparent financial process.
Thank you for your time.
Position: Events Coordinator Candidate: Barbara (Beemer) Warner and Diane Davis Candidate Statement: Barbara Warner - I retired at 63 in April of 2006, from a Fortune 100 company where I held the position of of Director of Facilities Management and Real Estate. My job responsibilities included a 30-million dollar a year budget with oversight of facilities across the U.S.
Retirement offered me the opportunity to purchase a 39' RV, which had been a lifelong dream of mine. In fact at retirement, I sold my home in San Jose, CA, liquidated most of my stuff, joined RVW and started the most adventurous and exciting journey of my life. I lived as a full timer for about 6 months and loved it. By the end of December of 2006, I was ready to make the 1,600-mile trip from San Juan Bautista, CA to SMR in Apache Junction, AZ. In the spring of 2007 I moved to Lakewood, Washington and joined the Cascadia Chapter.
My hobbies include RVing, golf, and kayaking. My co-nominee and domestic partner, Diane, and I maintain residences in Lakewood, WA and Apache Junction, AZ. We have 3 dogs named Toby, Dusty and Tulip.
Diane Davis - I have been a member of RVW for 10 years and served in a leadership position in the Rocky Mountain Chapter. I was a full timer for 8 months while working full time as a military disability physician, and can tell you stories about how to make it through a Colorado winter in an RV! I still work full time but now live in a house in Lakewood with Beemer, Toby, Dusty, and Tulip, with the RV Serendipity II lovingly parked in the side yard for vacations and Cascadia trips. I look forward to working jointly with Beemer in planning the activities for the 2009 Cascadia season.
We are very excited to be nominated for the Cascadia chapter Activities Co-Director position. In the tradition of the fun and exciting activities previously offered, we will make every effort to assure that the 2009 Cascadia season is its best year ever.
Position: Registrar Candidate: Pat Lebbert Candidate Statement: I retired as a special education/art teacher a few years ago to fulfill a life long desire of painting full time. I have held offices in the art groups I belonged to over the past 6 years. I was editor of the newsletter and also membership chair. Recently I was elected president of UP for Art, University Place's public art acquisition group. I am delighted to have spent this past season as your registrar, especially because I could take elements of past jobs and expand my knowledge in learning this job. I am happy to share my insights with the next registrar in 2010.
