Mary Schoenfeldt
Receives International Award
Mary Schoenfeldt, longtime Snohomish County resident and former employee of the Everett, Washington, Police Department, has been awarded the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award at the ninth World Congress of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. The foundation is recognized by the United Nations as the world's premier disaster mental health organization.
Schoenfeldt was recognized for her work in the field of school crisis response, disaster mental health and emergency management. Since working for the Everett Police Department as a community service officer in the 1980s, Schoenfeldt has devoted her life to helping people prevent and recover from traumatic events.
She also gives many volunteer hours to her passion. She is a board member of the state Critical Incident Stress Management Network, has volunteered with the Red Cross and provided services to victims and rescue volunteers in the New Orleans area after Hurricane Katrina.

She has provided assistance in Littleton, Colorado, San Diego, New York City and other cities where shootings and other devastating events affected communities and schools.
She wrote the crisis response model for all schools in California and has been an adviser to the federal Department of Education. She has written four books, has produced a DVD to help schools handle crisis and is routinely interviewed by print, radio, and TV media. Courtesy of The Everett Herald |
