Event Write-Up
What a beautiful drive going into the foothills of Mt. Rainier, with occasional glimpses of her and all her majesty!
We were greeted by the very cheerful Hi There! Girls, Lynn and Geri, who gave us packets full of wonderful information about things to do locally.
After getting hooked up, we wandered around greeting friends and meeting others. The theme for the weekend was "Survival." The Friday evening snack/supper showed many dishes that mother nature, with the help of the individual chefs and their wonderful imaginations, left us not needing for anything.
Suzanne came up with a game for the weekend called “Last Woman Standing.” She had researched the Cascadia website for history of our 10 years as a Chapter, from our founding through the various presidents, current and past boards, as well as information about the RVW national organization. There were several rounds to the game - one on Friday evening, one on Saturday morning, and another in the evening. At the beginning of each session, all of us were standing. A question was asked, and when the proper answer was given, all who didn’t know the answer were on their honor to sit down. Suzanne kept track of how many points each of the ‘standees’ earned at each session, and the winner was Diane M. Prizes were lottery tickets, and she won a total of $8 with her tickets.
Friday and Saturday evening found a group sitting around a campfire, and enjoying s’mores. Pat and Jill even brought a snow-cone machine and made us all rootbeer on crushed ice.
During the day Saturday, all those who didn’t go touring went to the lake – the activities planners brought all kinds of objects to float on, and there were kayaks, rubber boats, rafts, and some objects hard to describe. Dogs were allowed to join in the fun of swimming for sticks, etc. It was a wonderful day, puzzles, card games, visiting, napping, sunning. At one point 8 of us were standing on a ‘cliff’ above the water watching Cheryl trying to board her floatie. She studied and studied and finally made it aboard by forcing it underwater and ‘wearing’ it. There was a great round of applause from the onlookers, whom Cheryl hadn’t seen. Lisa donned her wet suit as she was practicing for a Sprint competition. Bonnie went rowing.
Saturday evening games were all water games because of the heat. A water balloon toss and water gun contest brought a bunch of over 50’s acting like teens with the throwing of the balloons. No one was spared, all got wet and the laughter was wonderfully infectious. Then the usual evening of Texas Hold 'em, board games, and campfires.
Thanks to the events folks, and all those who brought and set up water toys, those who drove and ferried us back and forth, for a wonderfully fun event!

Cheryl earned a huge round of applause when she finally
managed to successfully climb on board her floatie.

A flotilla of water toys was available for folks to take out
on the water. With temperatures around 90 degrees, the lake
felt pretty good to those who ventured out.

Despite being of the right generation for Hula Hoop, no one was very good at it, including our president, Marne.

One water game involved teams having to shoot streams of
water into a bucket. The team filling their bucket the most
in a set time period won.

Who doesn't love a good old-fashioned water balloon toss? |
