Poulsbo
Our second outing in Poulsbo, a quaint Norwegian town, proved to be quite interesting in many ways.
First the weather: we had rain, hail, snow, and sunshine. However, we didn't let that slow us down. There were 10 of us who came in on Thursday and 5 of us got together for a new game called Hoopla which Marne had brought to try out. It was a fun game which we played more than once. Upon arriving we were greeted by the hello girls Joanne, Lee and Miriam.
The meeting room was cut in half over the winter by the owners, without our knowing it. Jean volunteered her home for us to congregate but we were concerned about our animals and the weather and the logistics of us all getting there and back. Jean, we really appreciated the invitation. Alice and her work group struggled to arrange seating for the 58 of us for our evening of finger foods. In order for 1 person to get out of her seat, it required several others to move also. We had a good time in spite of the coziness.
About 22 of us returned after and Gail and Myrth provided our 'getting to know you' evening of fun. Myrth told us of some of the many things to see, and places to go in the surrounding area. To the music of "Getting To Know You", Gail very humorously gave us our instructions for our gathering. She had 2 decks of cards, a red and a blue. Passed out some of each, and we were to pair our numbers and colors and find our partner for our exercise. We were to come up with how to remember names, and share some memorable RVW experiences. There was much laughter with the stories, and we came away with some great hints on remembering names. Thanks Gail.
Saturday, after the Board Meeting, we headed out for Bainbridge Island, Casino buffets, eating in Poulsbo, and enjoying the shops and the Viking atmosphere and souvenirs. Several of us went to the Naval Under seas Museum at the submarine base in Keyport. One of the displays was a tribute to the Women who were Navy Seals. We had 2 Navy ladies there, and we didn't know there were women Navy Seals. That was a very interesting tour. Of course, the bakery in Poulsbo is famous in these parts, and everyone in town visited and enjoyed the marvelous no-nos. Saturday evening, we crowded back into our room for a wonderful potluck. I can't begin to describe the assortment of delicious foods that lined the tables. It was hard going back for seconds, but we managed.
When we returned Myrth took the stand and we were challenged with biographies of famous people who had spent some of their lives in Washington. There were 10 clues per person and 10 points if you guessed the person on the first clue, 9 for the second, etc. Lynne M. was the winner. Then we asked Myrth to tell her life story. We thank you so much for sharing. You've been an inspiration showing what a woman could do in a time women weren't recognized for their achievements.
Several of us dropped in at Karlene's and she introduced us to the fitness program on Wii, the new craze for all ages. I think there will be some more of us standing in the Wii line.
Sunday morning found us in the rain, coffee first, and then toasting our new rigs. Diane and Beamer have downsized and now have a park model in AZ. Laura and Barbara have upsized from a tent to a class C. Our poetic President, Dorene, had rhymed ditties for them both.
